Boys Football - Elgin League

Bede’s School U15As 1-6 Royal Russell U15As

The U15As travelled to Bede’s on Saturday morning knowing they would need to beat top of the table by 5 goals to qualify for the semifinals of the Elgin League. It was always going to be a tall order but the boys believed from the first minute that if anyone could do it, that it would be this group of players.

Tom Scarles made it 1-0 after Dylan De Gale cut it back. Following a corner which wasn’t fully cleared Harry Dawes opened his account for the season at just the right time thumping home from 10 yards, 2-0.

If the team didn’t quite believe they could get 5 they certainly did at half time when they were 2-0 and had numerous chances to make it more.

Bede’s made it 2-1 on the counter attack which seemed like it would knock out all the stuffing and belief from the team.

Not quite…

With 25 minutes to go it was still 2-1 but then Bobby Hassell how was tremendous all game slipped in Evan Newman who finished to make it 3-1. At a crucial moment in the game Stanley Moore whipped in a delightful corner and Arthur Leake superbly headed it back across goal, 4-1. There was real belief now from the team and it got better when MOTM Bobby Hassell got his deserved goal after a Tom Scarles pass 5-1. The team only needed 1 more now and came close on a few occasions. However, it finally came when Cameron Anderson-Green thumped it home to send the Russell players to emphatic celebrations.

We managed to hang on and as the final whistle blew the players were out on their feet as they left everything on that pitch.

What a RESULT and what a PERFORMANCE from the team. An achievement the team should be PROUD of and they now face Aldenham on Tuesday 19th of March in the semifinals.
