Boys Football - U15s ISFA Cup

St John’s Leatherhead 0-2 Royal Russell

The boys U15As progressed into the quarterfinals of the ISFA Cup after a real gutsy performance on what turned out to be horrible conditions.

Russell tried to dominate as usual but found a heavy wet pitch a leveller and the score line reflected that in the 1st half and neither team worked either GK with real efforts. Although Bobby Hassell looked a threat whilst stepping out from the back with the ball.

Russell turned it up a notch in the 2nd half with Cameron Anderson-Green started to get loads of joy down the right. The boys kept knocking on the door but a mixture of the final ball not quite being right and a few half chances for the likes of Evan Newman, Rocco Langley and Cameron meant the full time score line was 0-0.

Extra time and potentially penalties would determine the result of this fixture. The Russell players were confident going into extra time with their 2nd half dominance and this paid off late on in the 1st half of extra time. Evan Newman got on the half turn and perfectly weighted a pass into Zac Brennan. The captain showed the composure to drive into the box and calmly slot into the opposite corner to send the players into ecstatic celebrations, 1-0. The introduction of Arthur Leake injected new energy into the team and himself Bobby Hassell and Evan Newman was causing the St John’s back line all sorts of problems. Russell got a deserved 2nd as Stanley Moore down tremendously well to chop onto his right, force the GK to make a save and Bobby Hassell topped off an excellent performance by tapping in at the back post, 2-0.

An excellent robust performance from the group who battled throughout, with their quality shining through at the end.

POTM: Bobby Hassell
