Royal Russell U13As 2-2 Cardinal Newman U13A

On what was a very windy afternoon the U13As come away with a hard earned draw v a good Cardinal Newman team.

Royal Russell got off to a great start scoring a great team goal. Luke Bannon played back to Xavier Mahdi in goal who did well to beat the striker with his first touch. Ollie Pritchard and Harry Payne combined with quick play with Harry play a great ball down the side to Justin Jervis. The powerful attacker Justin made no mistake in slotting home, 1-0. Cardinal Newman equalised as Russell continued to try play their football but was dispossessed outside their box and they were punished. However, Royal Russell did get their noses in front when this time Sam Hubbard played a great ball through the Cardinal Newman defence and Justin Jervis once again made no mistake to make it 2-1.

That was the easier half for the boys in maroon as they struggled to play out against a strong wind. Cardinal kept knocking on the door but a combination of some excellent defending from Malaki Hanson and some good talking from Xavier Mahdi in goal prevented Cardinal from equalising. This was until with 5 minutes to play they did equalise, 2-2.

Russell showed fight and good problem solving skills to not concede again and had some chances on the break to get a winner but a draw in reflection was a fair result.

Justin Jervis was superb going forwards whilst Malaki Hanson showed amazing defensive qualities to be voted the Player of the Match.
Goals: Justin (2)
Assists: Harry Payne, Sam Hubbard
