Boys Football – Elgin League Final
Royal Russell 15A 0-0 Hampton (5-4 PENS)
The U15As were crowned Elgin League Champions as they beat Hampton School on penalties in a closely contested encounter.
Hampton had the 1st chance as Rayhain Zubair headed off the line. Rayhain was then up the other end and saw his cross blocked off the post. We started to take control of the game, moving the ball well. Kuranosuke Abe then had a great effort headed on the line before half time, 0-0.
The team were positive going into the second half knowing they could get the decisive goal. We started to move the ball well dominating possession whilst Hampton always looked a threat predominantly from counterattacks. With 10-15 minutes to go we started to really pile on the pressure throwing bodies forward to try get the decisive winner. Emerson Blackwell, Santiago Black, Mykola Cherniavskyi and Kura all had efforts either blocked or just wide before the full-time whistle blew.
Straight to penalties it was.....
Kura, Jay Cho and Kian Miller all calmly slotted home whilst Hampton scored their first two. Hampton’s 3rd penalty was expertly saved by Lucas Brown. Nicholas Parris then slotted home whilst Hampton also scored. That meant that if Santiago Black could hold the composure to score, we would win......
Santiago did exactly that sending the GK the wrong way to the delight of all the Royal Russell players, coaches and supporters.
A fantastic achievement for this group of players. Congratulations!!
POTM: Lucas Brown
