Boys Football - Surrey Cup

Royal Russell 5-2 Weydon (AET)

The boys made hard work in the Surrey Cup 2nd round tie vs Weydon School. Kian Miller hit the crossbar early on. We then took the lead before half time as Kyle Dalling saw his effort rebound off the post and Mykola Cherniavskyi was on hand to tap home 1-0.

The boys started the 2nd half the same way they finished the 1st half, moving the ball quickly. We had a lot of opportunities to put the game to bed as we made numerous final third entries but we lacked the final bit of quality. We were made to pay as Weydon scored from a long ball to equalise and soon scored the 2nd to make it 2-1. It seemed like despite dominating the game Russell would be knocked out…..

However with 4 minutes to play Lucas Brown saw his free kick headed home by Kuranosuke Abe to the jubilation of the Russell players.

Extra-time awaited us. It wasn’t until the 2nd half of extra-time that we took the lead. Malachi Patrick beat his man as he had been doing all afternoon and this time had to composure to square it across to Kura to tap home 3-2. Samuel Chou who was a real impact and game changer off the bench then turned provider for Kura to get his hat-trick. Kura returned the favour as he squared it to Sam who tapped home to seal the 5-2 victory.

We progress into the 3rd round with an away trip to Rutlish School next.
