Match Report
Royal Russell School 4th XI vs  Wilson's School
On: Wednesday, 16 Oct 2024
Venue: at Home

On a lovely October afternoon, the weather was only matched by the quality of football played by a 4XI in sparkling form.

We were 3 goals up within the first 10 minutes! Before he ran out of steam, Chris Doble was unstoppable, scoring twice with his boots and once with his head. Although the finishing from Chris was quality, the approach work by the rest of the team provided him with those opportunities as Lucas Chatterjee, Tom Burghes and Marcus Ho each provided moments of brilliance. They were well supported by Tim Salami in midfield and in goal, the unflappable Brandon Moreland.

Marcus added a fourth before half-time and we were cruising. Subs changed things in the second half, but not in terms of application or effort as Harry Spriggs and Nathan Argo added their own sparkle. Nathan was unlucky not to score after riding and breaking through 3 separate challenges. Andy Wong had a similar opportunity on the left. It seemed to be all Russell, but of course Wilsons came to play and they got 1 back when some sloppy defending by all the team left several players unmarked at a corner and it was a simple finish.

However once we got back into our rhythm we scored 3 more by Tim, Nathan and the pick of the day, possibly the month, an absolute smasher by Lucas; a long kick from Brandon out to Lucas on the left wing, 1 touch to control the ball and push it out in front of him before smashing it past the helpless keeper. Despite Chris' hat-trick, this was enough to make Lucas my player of the day, but the award could also have gone to Tom. We look forward to more games after half-term.
