Boys Football - Elgin League
Royal Russell U15A 2-0 Whitgift
Royal Russell had their 2nd Elgin league fixture in 5 days as they hosted Whitgift in a highly anticipated fixture.
Royal Russell started well and imposed themselves on the game by their usual high energy pressing and dominance with the ball. Captain Zac Brennan had to come off early due to injury but this didn’t disjoint Royal Russell as Zachariah Osu took his place and had an excellent game. Bobby Hassell came close as he headed just over from a great corner from Tom Scarles. Royal Russell did have the ball in the net as Dylan De Gale slipped in Evan Newman who finished well from 25 yards but was disappointed to see it ruled out for offside.
HT 0-0
Despite not scoring Royal Russell were in control but couldn’t break down a really resilient Whitgift team. It wasn’t until that combination of Dylan De Gale and Evan Newman unlocked the Whitgift defence. Dylan De Gale was found by Joe Kennedy who had a tremendous game and was ever present in midfield. Dylan superbly turned and timed his pass to find Evan Newman who slotted it into the far corner 1-0. Russell got a deserved 2nd goal in what was a bit of a freak goal. The Whitgift defender passed back to the GK and it somehow found its way into the net with no pressure 2-0. It was nothing less than what Russell deserved after a dominant display.
The boys now regroup as they travel away to Bradfield for their 3rd Elgin league fixture in a week.
